Z620
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi!

I have Z620 workstation and tried to install new graphics card Asus Strix Radeon R9 390 STRIX-R9390-DC3OC-8GD5-GAMING.

Installing the card to the primary PCIe slot, makes the computer beep 6 times and not waking up. Installing the card to the secondary slot wakes up the computer and everything works fine. Only problem is the size of the graphics card, it is so low that fans takes hit on cables and they wont work right.

What is the reason why the primary pcie slot doesnt work on new graphic card? Secondary works fine.

Hi ApeX4,

I suspect this is a power issue based on the Z620 specs;

Looking at the ASUS website, your GPU power consumption is listed as 'up to 300W' which exceeds the Z620's primary graphics slot specification of 225W maximum. I have used a GTX 1080 Ti (250W) in the primary slot without any issue but 300W is certainly pushing it. As for the ASUS GPU card working in your secondary graphics slot, you may have been lucky. You could try and run a benchmark test to stress test the GPU in the secondary slot.
