HP Z640 Workstation

Hi,

I installed an additional 10Gb NIC in my Z640. The card supports WOL, but the NIC is completely switched off because it apparently has no power.

Some HP PCs have the "Power On By PCI Devices" option in the BIOS / UEFI, which would provide power to the NIC, like the onboard NIC, and allow the reception of a WOL signal.

My Z640 BIOS (M60 v02.58) apparently doesn't have this option. Or am I missing it?

Is there perhaps a workaround or another solution?

Edit:

I'm currently using the onboard NIC to start the PC via WOL. However, I would like to avoid having to operate two NICs and occupy two network sockets.

current z640 bios is 2.61 not 2.58

i recommend doing a bios update from within the z640 bios itself as the os based updates can sometimes have issues

next if the internal nic works with WOL, why the need for another nic?

and if you want help with said nic you're going to have to state the card's model number and the OS you want to use

I have updated the BIOS to the latest version. The “Wake on by PCI device” function is not available here either.

The onboard NIC is: Intel I218-LM 1Gbit

Added NIC is: Argus ST-7267 with Marvell AQC107 chipset 10Gbit

OS is: Windows 10 64bit

The new NIC is much faster, so I don't actually need the onboard NIC.

The WOL settings in Windows are of course the same for both cards. Windows Fast Startup is also disabled.

My main concern is whether the mainboard even supports "Wake on by PCI device".

yes the HP system does support "WOL" but not all lan cards will work properly on all systems the intel cards are the gold standard that most OEM's support and validate for their workstations/servers

i would replace the current 10GB card with a Intel non server model like the x550-at2

I also had my eye on a NIC with an Intel chipset. But with NICs with RJ-45 sockets, WOL is usually not supported, even if the chipset can. At least I haven't found many "affordable" cards.

With SFP+ it's completely different. But the setup is also more expensive and uses more electricity.

I also discovered that my VOIP phone also has a network output. The onboard NIC is now attached to the phone and WOL works over it. Not the best solution or what I wanted, but acceptable.

Nevertheless, thank you very much for your support.
