I have 8 sticks (16 GB each for a total of 128 GB) of ECC REG PC3-12800 RAM. I don't know how many ranks each stick has. Are these modules (sticks) compatible with the Z800? Does the Z800 now accept 32 GB sticks? What exactly is the type of module is that 32 GB stick that can be installed in the Z800?

first of all,......if "YOU" don't know the rank of your dimms, just how do you expect us to say if it will/will not work?
your question should have been (how do i determine the Rank on my dimms) and the answer to that is look at the label on the dimm, and you will see xxxxxx xxxxx (R2 or R2x4) xxxxxx xxxxx where R2 means Rank=2
keep in mind the z800 uses a triple channel memory controller, as such each bank requires 3 dimms
look at the z800 side cover for memory placement
if you want to know if 16GB modules are supported................ CHECK THE MEMORY MAKERS WEBSITE AND SEE IF A 16GB MODULE IS SOLD FOR THE Z800

or, read the HP docs to see what the max supported ram is,.. note that max ram depends on if one or two cpu's are installed)

want detailed memory information on the z800?,.... HP has posted the information online for anyone to read/download

I have not worked with the Z800 but my extensive work with the version 2 Z600 and the version 2 ZX20 workstations might help you. It is important to know if you have a v1 or a v2 Z800... it is for the Z600. The V2 motherboards got a new memory controller, and this works with the v2:
I found retired 14900R memory we have been using in our Z620/Z420 v2 workstations also worked perfectly in our Z600 v2 workstations. I got quite a few of those in the $12.00-15.00 USD range, 8GB size, and chose to only buy the Samsung versions because that was what was available at the time in good quantities. It is all a supply/demand thing for cost, and if you buy more you can haggle more. These mostly came from IBM and Dell servers, but also from some HP servers. I always prefer HP memory, but these all had the same codes. You can see what parts of the codes are important to match.... the ones at the end no so much., from Samsung memory spec PDFs.

To "SDH",.. unlike the z600 the z800 has no differences in memory capability/specs between the v1 and v2 motherboards the only difference between the two motherboard revisions on the z800 is the cpu support 55xx for v1 and 55xx/56xx for v2 although you still need to match the memory speed to the cpu for best performance

Thank you for your responses. I apologize for posting my question incorrectly/with incomplete information. Shortly I will post all the information on the label of the DIMMs, including number of ranks each module has. To view those DIMMS I have to power down my PowerEdge R510. I have a Z800 being shipped to me. I purchased the Z800 because I wanted to put the two X5675 CPUs and the 16 GB modules of ECC DDR3 from my R510 into a rig that has several PCI-E X 16 slots (the R510 has none). I thought I was in the clear with compatibility issues when I made sure the Z800 I purchased had the revised motherboard that allows 56XX processors to be installed. Now I think that the RAM that I have will not be compatible the Z800. I do want to find out exactly what kinds of RAM modules I can install in the Z800 that are 16 or 32 GB sticks. If twelve 8 GB sticks, in conjunction with the two X5675s, would produce maximum performance versus DIMMs with 16 or 32 GBs then I would go that route.
