Got a HP Z840 PC in, refurbed from new egg.
Win 10 x64 lastest service pack 22H2
Updated BIOS from 2.29 to 2.61 successfully.
TPM.msc reports IFX and v4.40 and reports it's NOT Ready For Use. Even after a CMOS reset.
Checking BIOS screen under security, shows 1.2 and Device, State are Available and Enabled.
Following all documention and support information, TPM is at v4.40 and using both 1.2 or 2.0 updater utilites doesn't seem to be updating the TPM from v4.40 to v4.43 or to 2.0.
I checked the .txt log file of the updater untility and only showed invalid entries for the .bin files that were not applicable.
After selecting RETART the PC restarts.
I get a BIOS screen notification of a TPM PPI and a change was requested to allow field upgrade to the TPMs FW, F1 to accept for F2 to Reject
F1 screen goes away.
Get POST boot screen
Then I get another TPM Firmware Update Request screen, F1 to accept for F2 to Reject
F1 screen goes away.
Get POST boot screen.
Then boots to Windows.
Checking TPM.msc it reports v4.40
Ive tried that one user mentioned here:
Reset the CMOS and did nothing else.
I tried something that was mentioned in that link as well and this older utility can't find a valid file to use or it says the TPM FW is already on the version I need to use. I even put the v4.40 to v4.43 in the FW folder and it doen't find it:
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp81501-82000/sp81900.exe
I have all the files in folders on desktop and I presume this should work from this location. Or should it be from USB?
Anyone has detailed information or steps to take, please let me know.
I'm I missing something or is this one PC not abile to update to TPM 2.0 or is this TPM borked. Any BIOS configurations needed? I wanted to get Windows 11 on it and dual boot it. I got a z640 about a year.5 ago and got it updated to TPM 2.0 and got it dual booting. Hoped a z840 could do same thing. Should I send the z840 back and get another z640? Like the 800 series. If

So updating this. Talked to place where I bought the 1st z840 and asked them about TPM and said 8 series is more problematic on TPM and may not update to 2.0. So I cancelled another z840 order today and bought another z640 which I know does support TPM2.0 as my 1st z640 I bought about a year.5 ago did. Also the tech said the 8 series only supports DDR3 were the 640s support DDR4 so there's that. I haven't had any issues with the 1st z640 so the 2nd z640 should be as good. Also the z640 has more recent support as well. I see there is a BIOS update this year.
Thanks for the information. Good luck with those checking into this.

don't mess with the updater, when run correctly it will determine the correct up/downgrade files to use
make sure the TPM is enabled in the bios then check the installed ver
verify the current TPM firmware version on the device
from a dos admin window, run TPM.MSC
The different version properties on the chip are:
- Manufacturer version
- Specification version
download and run SoftPaq 81900 read the included docs then run the 32 or 64 bit updater from a dos admin window

Ok.
TPM was enabled in BIOS.
Version seen using TPM.msc was TPM 1.2 and v4.40
Ran from Windows 10 x64 but I didn't run it from a dox admin window, just selected the executable from the folder on the desktop.
Were you able to get your z840 updated to v2.0 TPM?
I'm in the process of sending this z840 back to place of purchase since video card and system seems bad. I'm getting a replacement and soon as it comes in, i'll check this list again and run from dos command line with the SP81900.

i'd find another place for support...........................the z840 does support TPM 2.0 and uses DDR4 ram not DDR3
and i had no issue updating the tpm on my z840's from 1.2 to 2.0
and FYI the z640/z840 both use the same model TPM chip
there is no hardware issue on the z840 regarding tpm 2.0 what there is is many people thinking they are updating it correctly when in reality they are not and HP has some blame here as they don't really have a simple 1 click update process, while their updater documentation requires a high school level reading ability the documentation is nowhere as clear as it could be
