in short, another tech replaced the Formatter board and the eMMC but not the TPM(i think the second detachable board like the eMMC is the TPM) so the sent the printer to me and I'm having a hard time installing the firmware, ive tried using the usb thumbstick formatted to FAT32 and tried multiple flash drives, the mfp does not detect any one of them. Tried to install firmware through the internet, also failed, i can ping the mfp and use telnet so there in no network connectivity issue. ive also tried to use the usb slot at the back of the formatter board,
any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi @Str44thond,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're dealing with a complex issue involving a printer that has had its Formatter board and eMMC replaced, and now you're having trouble installing the firmware. Here are some steps and tips to help you resolve this issue:
General Troubleshooting Steps
Verify USB Ports and Drives:
- Ensure that the USB ports on the printer are functioning. Test them with other devices if possible.
- Make sure the USB drives you are using are properly formatted to FAT32 and are not corrupted. Try different USB drives as you have been doing.
- Ensure that the firmware file is the correct one for your printer model and that it is not corrupted. Download it again from the official HP website if needed.
- Format the USB drive to FAT32 using the standard formatting tool. Ensure it has no other files on it except the firmware file.
- Sometimes older printers have issues with larger USB drives. Try using a smaller capacity USB drive (e.g., 2GB or 4GB).
Printer-Specific Steps
Reset Printer:
- Perform a factory reset on the printer. This can sometimes clear out any lingering issues and reset it to a state where it can accept new firmware.
- Use the USB port at the back of the formatter board as you mentioned. Ensure that the firmware file is placed in the root directory of the USB drive.
Service Menu:
- Access the printer’s service menu. This is typically done through a series of key presses. Look for the firmware update option within the service menu and try to initiate the update from there.
Network Firmware Update
- Since you can ping the printer and use Telnet, ensure the printer is properly connected to the network.
- Use the printer’s web interface (usually accessed via its IP address in a web browser) to check for firmware update options.
- If there is a firmware update section, use it to upload the firmware file directly from your computer.
Using Telnet:
- Use Telnet to communicate with the printer and possibly initiate a firmware update. Specific Telnet commands can vary, so consult the printer's service manual or HP support for the exact commands needed.
Replace or Check TPM Module:
- If the second board is indeed the TPM (Trusted Platform Module), ensure it is correctly installed and functioning.
- If the TPM is not replaced or is malfunctioning, it can cause issues with the printer's ability to accept new firmware or boot correctly.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
