Greetings @secsun

Welcome to the HP Forum.

I haven't done an Intel build since 2018. Clean Windows installs on Intel socket 1151 300 series MBs did not require storage driver injection.

I remember injecting drivers during Windows setup in the early 2000s. I can't understand why this procedure needs to be done in 2025.

It looks like you need to do an IRST driver injection during Windows setup.

I would think @Paul_Tikkanen can assist.

Regards

@secsun :

The only suggestion I can offer would be to try the IRST driver from your PC's support page that I zipped up and attached below.

Unzip and copy all of the files in the folder in the attachment to a USB flash drive.

Have the flash drive and your Windows installation media plugged into USB ports.

Boot from the Windows installation flash drive.

When you get to the screen where no drives can be found, click on the Load driver option, browse to the flash drive with the storage controller drivers on it.

If you check the box, it will only include the compatible driver.

If Windows still can't find the drive, uncheck the box to include the compatible driver and try any of the ones listed.

If your PC's drive is connected to a SAS controller, try the SAS controller drivers I zipped up and attached below:

LSI MegaRAID SAS 9270-8i Driver -- sp62467

LSI MegaRAID SAS 9260-8i Driver -- sp60916

The HP z800 was never certified by HP for windows 10, it will however run this OS without issues the x64 version is recommended

the storage port locations are documented on the side cover of your  z800 and also documented in the z800 Hardware Service Manual

https://www.manualslib.com/manual/690474/Hp-Z800.html

the onboard LSI SAS/SATA controller like the z800's onboard SATA controllers has a limit on bootable partition size it must be under 2TB in size also if using the latest bios,  drives can be just under 3TB instead of the older bios's 2TB limit

The z800 bios should ALLWAYS be set to AHCI+Raid

the HP z800 (like the later z820) has 3 separate storage controllers on the motherboard the driver required depends on which controller you have connected the boot OS drive to

there are two Std SATA II ports that will not require a driver these two ports are located next to the 5 INTEL "SCU" sata ports the intel "SCU" ports do require the correct RSTe  (e= enterprise) driver to enable the ports

use the windows 7 driver under windows 10 to install the Intel "SCU" RSTe driver  sp65105  v11.5.4.1001

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp65001-65500/sp65105.exe

extract the SP65105.exe file using winRAR...... inside the extracted files will be a Dos/F6 folder use the files in this folder during the OS install when prompted for additional driver installs via the F6 key

the seven white SAS/SATA LSI ports along the bottom of the motherboard again require a driver for the onboard 1068E controller HP does not offer such a driver for windows but Dell does, again extract the dell file to access the "F6 drivers

https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=91gdy

you can "PM" me if you would like a precompiled z800 windows 10 install ISO/USB key that contains all necessary windows 10 pro x64 drivers slipstreamed into the OS installer
