trying to add a 3rd hard drive to a Z840, that won't be in the raid, but keep getting: integrated raid exception detected volume (hsl:128) is currently in state inactive/optimal whenever i put it in. tried another disk and same.
looked in the SAS contoller, and BIOS.
what am i missing?

i suspect you have 2 raid arrays defined in the LSI controller but were only using one
Boot to the controller BIOS
Select the controller (if using more than one controller)
This will bring you to the adapter properties window.
go to the Select New Array Type window, there is now an option of view existing array. By using the arrow keys, select View Existing Array, (do you see 2 arrays? if so remove the unused one)
Return to main menu and select SAS Topology and verify only one Array is active.
