Notebook HP 250 G7
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I want to start the notebook by wake on LAN.

Which settings (BIOS, Windows) are necessary?

In which mode (shutdown, powersave, screen up, screen down) must I but the device?

Thanks for your help!
Stefan

There is a search feature built into this forum.  Try searching for WOL and Wake On LAN.

WOL is an energy inefficient and complex feature.  It was easier to get working on W7Pro64, and much more complex to get working on W10Pro64.  It requires specific BIOS settings, and also specific network adapter settings.  On some HP PCs one particular necessary change from default is set in BIOS, and on another HP PC the same necessary option is changed in the network adapter software.  Go figure...

HP workstations connect to the network using different "network adapters" which can be separate PCIe cards or different chipsets on the motherboard.  Some HP workstations have two different LOM chips on their motherboards.  There also are different BIOS vendors for a HP workstation versus a HP business class PC.  The combinations and permutations are numerous and generally not worth the effort  or excess energy cost these days.

So, don't expect a one-size-fits-all solution.  And expect to spend many hours on this project.  I recently posted a HP White Paper about this issue HERE , which includes a RegEdit modification of the W10 registry.  That was for business class boxes, but you can do it on W10Pro64 HP workstations also.  It is not the Holy Grail.

Few really need WOL, and even fewer have the hours to invest to perfect it.
