Hi.
I've issue with my hp z240 sff. After I plugged the external drive 2.5" to usb 3.0, the hard drive is showing up in win10 after a few minutes. The max speed with read/write is 40MB/s.
When I plugged it to USB 2.0 it is showing in a few seconds.
The problem is with WIN 10, and Linux (MINT, Ubuntu), the GParted can't find the externall drive.
My externall drive is JMicron Generic SCSI Disk Device, and the second is sage 3639S SCSI Disk Device.
I have a few different product from HP, and both drive work perfectly.
HP 800 g1 sff working without problem, the max speed is about 100MB/s same 6300 sff.
I've upgrade BIOS to latest from HP page.
P.S. Sorry for my bad english.
Many thx for Your helps.

the HP z240 uses a Intel based usb controller chip and windows 10/11 have a built-in usb 3 driver for this hardware and it's a very stable combination
use another usb drive enclosure, some JMicron controllers are known to have firmware issues
also many cheap no name drive enclosures say usb 3.0 and use a 3.0 cable, but the controller chip is actually usb 2.0

Hi, many thx for your answer.
I've changed the case to another with Sage chip, and I've changed the driver from HDD to SSD. The best thing is that both case worked fine. The speed was about 380MB.
Now I changed HDD from jMicron to Sage and the speed on jMicron is about 70-80MB
But the best thing is that both case with HDD work perfectly on HP 800 G1 i5-4570, and HP 6300. But the jMicron with Lenovo m700 Tiny have the same issue like my z240. But only when I plugged it to the ordinary USB 3.0 without charging, when it is plugged to USB 3.0 with charging everything is fine.
I think the problem is between chip mobo - case - HDD.
Now when I roll the HDD between cases (jMicron/Sage) the driver is recognize on a few seconds on MS and Linux. The average speed is about 70-80 MB. I know hp800 G1 was 100 MB/s
Your link to sarbent case, is that case uses chip USB 2.0 with cable 3.0 ?? Or it is recommend by you as the good choise?
In Poland I can get the case with JMS578 chip.

Hi.
Thx for Your link.
I've opened my case, and the chip inside is JMS578. So I downloaded the firmware, flash all of them, one by one with testing with my z240. The drive is showing up in system after one meybe two minutes after plugged into usb3.0

Because USB 3.0 host controllers all implement a common specification (XHCI), no-name USB 3.0 vendors can easily switch out which host chip they are using based on availability or cost.
HP has their official win 10 restore image available on their "HP Cloud Recovery" website i recommend you do a clean reinstall of the OS test your ext usb device then all needed MS updates and again retest and if good create a restore point now reinstall any apps reboot and test speeds again repeat install/test till all apps are installed

Hi.
I've installed a fresh Win10. I've downloaded IT from MS site. Then installed a new mobo chipset drivers and all stuf. Without positive result.
I've tested memory stick USB 3.0. Kingston Data Traveler and Adata, both work ok, in both the max speed of reading is about 100 MB, so is correct whit spesc of product.
The problem is only with the case jMicron and a small of part with Sage case.
I think the problem is with Intel controller, because HP z240 ( 6-gen & 7-gen Intel CPU) and the Lenovo m700 Tiny is with i5-6500T and the problem is present too. That is strange situation.
