HP Z420 Workstation
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After a Ransom attac I first decided to disconnect the 2 TB HDD installed and reinstall Win10Pro64 on C-drive, which works all right. To avoid any trouble from evt hidden ransomware on the 2 HDDs, I ran Ubuntu to clean format the 2 drives. They are both available in Ubuntu.

Bios J61 v03.96 does NOT find the 2 disks, nor Windows Device manager. No matter no partition, FAT-format, NTFS format.

Some research found some  issues:

1.  Device manager shows problems with PCI-serial port and SAS-controller drivers missing, but how can I get those drivers?

2. Trying to read System information I get this message: Cannot collect information. No access to Windows management software. It is possible that Windows management files are missing or moved. How can I fix this?

Hopefully

most likely you have not installed the Intel RSTe driver for the z420 from the hp site during the win 10 install you need to manually add the driver

read the included docs on how to do this basically during the win 10 install on the select disk to install win 10

there is a load driver button. press it and select the usb key or whenever you extracted the RSTe F6 driver folder

Hi DGroves,

Thank you for help on the Intel RSTe driver, it let me contact the disks. The most important issue is solved.

But the PCI serial still has problem after disabling the only "AMT" I could find.

the serial error is for a pci serial device, this is indeed the virtual com device used for the "AMT"  and once the "AMT" is disabled this com 3 device error will no longer show

AMT is unsafe to leave enabled as it has several known security issues that are unpatched and as i stated home users do not need to have AMT Enabled

this is the latest AMT firmware, (not the com 3 driver)

Version:

11.8.93.4323 Rev.A

Windows 10 (64-bit)

AMT driver (com 3) for win 10 64bit (sp144007.exe)
the intel management package under the HP z240 website/chipset has the com 3 driver

Hi DGroves,

Thanks for your info! Again!

At first attempt I found a BIOS-setting with AMT in device options, see pic, and was satisfied with my choice,

then I had to search each option on BIOS-setup until I found another under Advanced-Managemant options wich turned out to be the correct one.

Thank you very much for your kind help!

if you carefully reread the description it says DISABLE amt functions on the "NETWORK DEVICE" IE- the onboard ethernet lan port

as you found out, this is not the same as actually disabling the AMT itself

you can safely leave both disabled, or just the AMT  itself
