z440 Workstation

Hi,

I recently bought the z440 without any ram installed, so I bought 3x16GB ECC (manufacturer part number MTA36ASF2G72PZ-2G1A2II). According to the specification, everything should be fine, but the computer shows the memory error.

I tried every possible configuration. Still doesn't work even with one ram installed in slot#1.

I there anything i'm missing or I'm just having a bad luck and my ram is not supported by the MB "whitelist" (which i heard might be the problem)?

Thanks for help.

ThirtyDoorKey,

I use DDR3-1866 ECC registered in a z620 (64GB) and a z420 (32GB). Through experience with quite a number of workstations, it seems that the memory is especially  particular. It' possible that the RAM purchased is not fully compatible by way of timing, ranks, etc,

My practice with HP systems has been to buy only RAM modules with the HP part number on it. I've never had but one module fail, possibly to due to a hard life in a server.

The memory in the image below is not suggested as the exact module to buy, but shown is an  HP- labeled  DDR4-2133 ECC registered 16GB module:HP DDR4-2133P _16GB. modulejpg.jpg

And the HP label on the upper right is apparent.

Other suggestions: Have all the modules be exactly the same to avoid timing discrepancies and avoid the server low power modules  that go into a low power mode to save energy. Review the exact designation in detail.
