HP Z560 Digital Entertainment System
Microsoft Windows XP

I tried this hard reset on my HP Z560 Digital Entertainment Center, but it did not help. I purchased the unit new in 2006, then it stayed in a storage unit for about 9 years. I brought it out to see if it would work, but it initially did not have any video, so I opened it up to see what I could see as a PC repair person/network engineer. I found some disconnected cables, reconnected them, and replaced the CR2032 battery, and it then started up and displayed the BIOS entry screen with an 'F1' prompt. I have tried 1) the wireless keyboard that came with the unit, 2) a wireless USB Keyboard, and 3) a wired USB keyboard. The F1 BIOS prompt has not been affected by anything I have tried yet, and I tried your Hard Reset but no change. I don't know what to do now. The F1 prompt indicates to me that the CR2032 battery that I replaced was dead over time (it tested as exhausted with a battery tester I have), and in order to set the Bios up again I have to get into it to do so.  I think that the original 350 GB hard drive is OK as I removed it to see if it was accessible when connected to a Startech drive duplicator connected with a USB3.0 cable to my HP desktop, and I could access it and copy files from it. I duplicated it to a 500GB drive I have and there was no issue with doing so.. I hope someone can give me a direction to try.

This is such a hybrid PC unit that is based on an early wireless keyboard and track ball, plus having a lot of video and audio gear built into it on the back, that I don't know if anyone still knows what to do about it. I hope you can assist me.

Thanks,

Michael Johnston

not all usb keyboards are created equal, some cheap kbd's will have issues on different systems as the kbd's usb interface circuit is cut down to minimal parts to save cost

try replacing the kbd with a different and possible better quality unit

Thanks for your support and kind reply. The keyboard I have here is a Dell keyboard that works on the HP Compaq DC8200 Elite tower on occasion when it is dual booting, and also a DC7900, so I assumed it would work for the Z560. I will pull a few others out of storage to try, so maybe one will work. I will post again with results.

Thanks again,

Michael
