z800 ssd upgrade

i have a base z800 workstation, with 500 Gb boot disc. I like to replace with a ssd.

You will be amazed at the improvement.  The ZX00 family all are SATA generation II workstations and my favorite SSD for them is the SATA II Intel 320 series 600GB SSD.  I've bought those used off eBay.  I personally do a DBAN low level format on them, and then put put them in a Windows workstation to do a long type NTFS MBR partition format. 

DBAN makes the drive "raw" and I have never bought a bad used one.  Intel has an excellent SSD utility, the Intel Toolbox.  Use that after you've got the SSD up and running.  That can update your SSD's firmware also.  I tend to run the toolbox 1/month.  That SSD will cost about 80.00.

Processor upgrades is another thing to look into....

also depending on your needs/skill level it's possible to boot from a nvme SSD, however i don't recommend this for  business usage or beginners as it does require a bit of OS knowledge

you can also install a PCI-E x2 SATA 6GBps card which is just plug and play and will be faster than a connection to the z820 sata port no drivers are required under win 10 and i have personally used this card in a z800
