Can anyone help please. I bought a second hand z840 in USA, it was tested and set up working fine and then shipped to UK.
I've turned it on and i get nothing on the screen, tried a couple, and i get 5 beeps which seems to indicate memory error. Have reseated the DIMMs, swapped, put them in two by two, removed pairs ... always 5 beeps. I assume the memory is ok or all dead. PSU measures lots of +12v on the 3 connectors, 2 pins of +5v and one pin of -12v and one pin of 0.9v next to the -12v pin. Cant find any further info to check Can anyone help please

you can perform a "BIST" test on the power supply read service manual for directions
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04205252
the proper dimm slot order for installing ram is also posted on the side cover for common memory configs
http://h20331.www2.hp.com/Hpsub/downloads/Z820_Memory_Configurations.pdf
note that slot load order changes depending on if one or two cpu's are installed
the memory controllers are in the cpu's, try removing and cleaning the cpu pads with 98% alcohol and reinstall cpu's and thermal paste
The Diagnostic LED blinks red 5 times and the system beeps 5 times (once per second), then a 2-second pause follows:
This indicates a pre-video memory error.
To resolve the issue, complete the following steps:
1) Ensure that the memory modules are loaded correctly.
2) Reseat the memory modules.
3) Replace the memory modules one at a time to find the faulty module.
