Hey everyone,

I am running into an error while using the HP BiosConfigUtility. I am trying to change the biospassword or do a biosupdate but I receive errors like this:

"S:\#scipts und tools\SysinternalsSuite\PsExec64.exe" \\remotepc\ \\server\share\biosconfigutility64.exe /npwdfile:"\\server\share\newpw.bin" /cspwdfile:"\\server\share\newpw.bin"

<BIOSCONFIG Version="4.0.15.1" Computername="remotepc" Date="2018/09/04" Time="11:23:17" UTC="2">
        <ERROR msg="Unable to open password file: \\server\share\newpw.bin" />
        <ERROR msg="BCU return value" real="10" translated="10" />
</BIOSCONFIG>

The returned error code is 10.

Changing the password when entering bios physically is working without any issues. I did recreate the password bins but it still gives me those errors.

Anyone else having those problems or someone who can give me advice of what to do?

Sincerely

karlei

Hey again,

there is no solution for the case but at least there is a workaround. I tried to deploy biosupdates on many of our 8300 compaq pc's remotely which obv didn't work.

At first I wasn't able to get the passwordfile to work. Luckily there are way older versions of the bios config utility which did not use the passwordfiles but the cleartextpasswords. So I was using them to delete the password of the pc's first. After that I tried to apply the biosupdate and I was only able to do so, when I first updated the pc's to version 2.99 (got that out of another topic in this forum). After that I was able to update them to the latest bios and then applied a password again.

I didn't like to do it like that but at least they are secured now.

until next time

karlei
