DV7
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Installed an OEM version of Windows 7pro on my DV7 and HP software (specifically Cyberlink) won't re-install because it doesn't recognise it as a HP computer. How can I recharacterize it as a HP for the install?

As I understand, you're unable to install HP Software issue,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Have you tried downloading HP Software from HP Website?

I would suggest you install Windows update on your computer.

Also, you could try installing software using HP Website: http://hp.care/2ok413d

If the issue persists, I would suggest you reinstall Windows using HP Recovery Media. To order recovery media, follow steps from the link: http://hp.care/2qP2Lqh

Or you could contact our phone support for HP Recovery Media:

Computer was 32bit, installed 64bit Windows, so restore is out. The Cyberlink sw full install not available for download, so wanted to use the saved install files from the original. Repeatedly comes up no joy because not an HP...but it is. Soooo, what's the tell?

I don't have the recovery medium...and why would I drop back to a 32bit Vista?? As you probably know...you can't use upgrade media to go from 32bit to 64bit and preserve anything. I saved the folder that the Cyberlink installation files are in, but again, it no longer recognises the computer as an HP.

Thanks for responding,

Have you tried installing a 64-bit version of Cyberlink Software?

If not, please try as it should resolve the issue.

Cyberlink Software is irrespective of computer brand as it could be installed on any device.

For further assistance regarding Cyberlink, I recommend contacting the manufacturer of the software (Cyberlink).

Have a great day 🙂

Good Luck 😉

Why would I want to buy additional sw when it was purchased with this computer, and by normal licencing agreements, has a valid licence for this unit?  A 32bit app can generally run on 64bit Win7...look at MS Office as an example. The only problem is the characterization that HP loads into it's version of Windows.

I found out how costly it can get when I bricked a unit by transferring a hard drive from another HP computer. When I did a system restore it locked up the bios, and I was informed that it would cost $300 for an authorized service center to unlock the bios. I ended up giving my customer another computer...and ate the difference.
