Printer not recognising enable command

H P All in one Deskjet 2620
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I have had HP 2620 for a few months but now require to print data from one of my own software programs.  This printer does not appear to recognise the enable command.

I have used my program (unaltered) for decades.  It has worked on every printer up until now.  It works with other printers at the moment.

I have tried Ethernet and WiFi.

I have entered a pause in the program and checked the printer queue.  Nothing registers.

Any advice why not accepting enable command?  (VDU 2 command from BB4W BASIC)

Printer not recognising enable command

@TheFamousCash, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Have you tried printing different types of documents like PDF, Word or Webpages and check if the issue persists?

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any driver issue

Click here to download the file. Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and click on 'Fix printing'.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest firmware from your computer.

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Also, check for any pending windows update.

If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

Clean reinstallation of Pre-installed HP drivers (If the issue remains while printing from all the applications)

  1.  In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
  2.  Select your HP Printer
  3.  Select Uninstall
  4.  In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
  5.  In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
  6.  Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
  7.  Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
  8.  Click on the “Drivers” tab
  9.  Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
  10.  Select Ok
  11.  Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
  12.  Close Devices and Printers, restart the computer.

Click here to download the HP Full-featured driver.

Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.

Let me know how this goes.

Printer not recognising enable command

Thank you for your response.  I missed it.

I have re-checked software, updates, re-installed, everything. . . about five times.

Printer works for the usual PDF files et cetera. but I am talking about printing from a written program.

I have used it for DECADES on numerous printers without any problem.  It could not be a more simple command,  "VDU 2"  enables any printer to print subsequent output, "VDU 3" disables any printer. . . . Except THIS printer does not accept!

HP say the fault lies with my program.  Absolute rubbish!  The program works, at it always has done, with other printers!

Only this one does not appear to accept the command.

When I introduce a pause mid-way through print process and check the printer queue, there is nothing registered.  The printer makes zero attempt (or noise) to print.

The only thing in desperation, is the fact it is connected by WIFI although I am pretty certain other printers were same configuration.

It is extremely frustrating that HP just wash their hands of this problem.

Printer not recognising enable command

@TheFamousCash

If you are able to print other documents fine, it means the printer is connected and working fine. This could be a compatibility issue with the app you use to print and the print driver.

Try installing the printer using Windows built-in driver and check if that helps.

Refer to this document to know how.

Keep me posted for further assistance.
