Here is another sad story of the left hinge broken on my HP Envy DV7 notebook.  The place on the base where the hinge is screwed in is now just a broken piece of plastic. I paid top dollar for this and cannot justify replacing it so soon out of warranty.  I also am not confident that any repair would last.  What a quandary. Please help!!!

HP support saw this post and was very helpful with my repair.   They confirmed that I needed spare hinges and base (parts 707999-001 and 681977-001).  Unfortunately these parts are no longer available from HP but I found them on Amazon.  The base took a few weeks to come from China.   They also shared these links for my unit's repairs.

I got a local repair technician to come to my house for the repair.  The most complicated part was moving the innards of the laptop to the new base.   The unit is now fully functional again.

All is well that ends well.
