I would like to replace the current HP Smart app with the previous one.

The previous app was simple and easy for me to use.  I am 79 years old and find the curren app very confusing.  I don't print/scan except from my computer so I don't need an app for printing from other devices.

There is a large community of us older people that  would appreciate the option of updating an app or staying with one that we are comfortable with.  

I used to scan my checks and make an online deposit all within a few minutes.  Tried using the new app...spent a lot of time and was able to scan the front of my check but then couldn't scan the back.  So I had to drive to the bank and make the deposit.

When at the Senior I hear from others the same complaint.  YOU FORGET ABOUT US!!!

Welcome to the HP Community.

 

HP Smart - Windows - is an application that supports scan and printing for PDF and Photos (image files).

The application is separate from the full driver software.

Both full driver and the application can be installed on the computer at the same time.

Both provide access to the features supported on the printer.

HP Smart benefits from having the full driver installed.

 

The Full Feature Software / full driver printer software is still available for this printer.

Last released in 2015, it might still work with the latest versions on Windows 10.

The Full Feature Software is likely the printer software you have used in the past.

Basic Instructions - Install the Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software

 

  • If using VPN, shut it off to install software
  • Download and Save the Full Feature Software installation package or the Easy Start wrapper
  • Open File Explorer
  • Navigate to the folder in which you saved the installation file  (likely Downloads)
  • Reminder:  If using USB cable between printer and computer, disconnect the cable before installing software.
  • Right-Click on the installation package and “Run as Administrator
  • If using Easy Start > When asked, opt for "Full Driver" (exact wording might vary).
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

 

After the software is installed, look for two shortcuts on the Desktop - one shortcut for the Printer Assistant and one for HP Scan

Notes

When the full driver printer software is installed,

Find the printer software listed in Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features.

Printer software installed but not working?

 

NOTE:  If the printer software shows installed but is not working as expected,

Uninstall the printer software from Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features

Restart the computer and log in

 

What if?

If software will not uninstall, appears to be removed and is “still hanging around” after you uninstall / Restart...

Microsoft:  Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed

OR

Revo Uninstaller (Free version)

then

Restart the computer and log in

 

 

Reminder:  If using USB, disconnect the USB printer cable between the printer and the computer before installing software.  (Re)Connect the USB cable when instructed to do so near the end of the installation procedure.

 

Next,

Install a fresh copy of the Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software

Restart the computer and log in

 

The installation of the full printer software adds two shortcut icons to the Desktop.

The Printer Assistant is named for the printer and provides access to Print , Scan , and Tools

HP Scan is named for itself and provides a direct call to the HP Scan software.

HP Scan can be called from the shortcut on the Desktop.
