Product Name: Spectre x360
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I have a brand new Spectre x360, custom build: Regular HD display, i7, 8GB, 512SSD, 8.1 Pro.  I discovered that the machine has a freeze problem.  The first day I was using it, I had it plugged in and did not encounter any problems.  Yesterday, I started moving myself over to the new system and unplugged it from power to see how it does on battery and to use it in other locations.  What immediately started happening is the computer seems to hang when it does any power-saving action.  If I left the machine for more than just a few minutes, I'd come back and it would be hung: Keyboard still backlit but unresponsive to touchpad or keystrokes.  At this point, the only thing to do is hold the power button.  On further testing, I note that after a longer period, the machine turns off, but when restarted, it is not a resume, but a restart.  The event log just shows events about unexpected shutdown and not shut down cleanly.  There is no other smoking gun in the log prior to the boot messages.

I have tried reinstalling the HP drivers and uninstalling the McAfee software just in case it was causing the hang.  Nothing has resolved the issue.

I suspect it may be defective hardware, and since it's within my return window, I will probably just return it and order another one.

I really like the hardware and really want this to work.  Any authoritative tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Zeldar
