pavillion fan issues

so after the hard drive failed two weeks before the end of the 1 year warranty from pc world i took this pavillion back to pc world and it was duly repaired and returned with a new one year warranty it functioned happily for 12 months and 2 days before the fan died.

error (90B) fan

out of warranty i ordered a new fan. after i prised apart the console loctited together in an assembly (very bad practice) i discovered the 4 pin connecter was incompatible so intending to change over the connecters however the old fan has a totally different wire colour.

the original fan wires are 1 blue                              new 1 red

                                                2 black                                     2 black

                                                3 brown                                   3 yellow

                                                4 grey                                       4 blue

so is the +v  yellow or red

black -normally earth

blue  -control

grey?

i am writing this on a 10 year old toshiba thats never missed a beat

anyone want to help me out or maybe someone from hp wants to save face

because i can find no information on the first pin sequence

also i see i am not the first to come across this . the whole unit has to be broken down and reassembled every time i try a new pin combination . i dont want to do this 24 times

thanks
