Hello Travis_C,
I got in contact with HP business support Germany. After a few trial and errors without any success they really proposed that the only solution is to buy a new panel for about > 2000 USD for two "reasons" :
1. they cannot verify the serial no . - I did even send them a photo of the label on the backside of the monitor !!!
2. as the time for warranty has obviously expired they cannot do anything. There is even no way to get the monitor repaired by a thirdparty business !!!
3. that they now close the case (4642632136).
So I told them that argueing that way would be the same as for example producing a car which cost USD 10000 and if the front lights have a defect after 2 years they tell the customer to buy a new car, as HP does only replace defective items but not repair them.
So I learned two things:
1. never ever touch HP again
2. never pay more than USD 200 for such items
