Savi 8220 M UC
Microsoft Windows 11

This is the second time that I try to update the headset firmware. Once it finishes, the microphone stops working. Is there any way to hard reset the device or to recover it?

Your help will be appreciated

Welcome to HP Support Community, @ngporras45

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your Savi 8220 M UC headset's microphone stops working after a firmware update, here’s a step-by-step guide to recover the device:

1. Power Reset the Entire System (Important)

This is more than just turning off the headset.

Disconnect the base station from power
Unplug USB from the computer
Remove the headset from the base
Wait 30–60 seconds
Reconnect power + USB
Dock the headset again

2. Re-pair the Headset with Base

Firmware updates can break pairing.

Place headset on the base
Press and hold the pairing button on the base (rear side) for ~5–8 seconds
Wait until LED starts blinking
Keep headset docked until pairing completes

3. Force Windows to Re-detect the Device

Instead of just uninstalling, do this properly:

Open Device Manager
Expand:
Sound, video and game controllers
Audio inputs and outputs
Remove anything related to:
Savi 8200
Poly / Plantronics
Restart the PC
Plug the base again → let drivers reinstall automatically

4. Check Microphone Privacy Settings (Often Missed)

Windows 11 can silently block the mic.

Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone
Turn ON:
Microphone access
Let desktop apps access microphone

5. Use Poly Lens (Critical Step)

Open the Poly Lens Desktop App

Then:

Check if headset shows correctly
Go to Device Settings → Audio
Verify microphone is enabled
Try firmware update again OR rollback (if option available)

6. Test Outside Your Main App

Before assuming hardware issue:

Test mic in:
Windows Voice Recorder
Teams / Zoom (settings test)

7. Advanced Recovery (If Mic Still Dead)

Try this sequence:

Connect base to a different USB port (preferably USB 2.0)
Try on a different computer
Reset USB power:
Device Manager → USB Controllers → disable/enable

8. When It’s Likely Firmware Corruption

If ALL of these are true:

Speaker works but mic does not
Issue started immediately after update
Same issue on another PC

Then it’s likely firmware-related, not hardware.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
