Printer telling me the carriage can’t move and to open cartridge door and clear jam. There is no jam. There is nothing wrong. All strips and tapes and rods and thinga-ma-bobs are just fine. The last time this happened about a week ago, I turned it off, left it overnight and in the morning it did a head alignment and then worked fine. Both times this has happened, the prints have been sent from my partners laptop, not from my desktop. A print was sent earlier and just stopped working again. Is this a problem with the other laptop? A technician told me that this can happen if the memory gets backed up. There were only 4 prints sent so not anything heavy duty. The tech checked everything and there was nothing wrong. HP wanted to charge me R10700.00 for the part and replacement which quite frankly is ridiculous. That’s more than 1/3 the price I paid for the whole machine. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this and if it is memory, can it be cleared easily without having to wait overnight?

Hi. Yes I did figure it out in the end. In my case, it turned out that the sensor beside the carriage cradle on the right hand side was covered in ink. All it needed was to have the excess ink cleaned away and a restart and it has been working perfectly since.
