DesignJet T120 Product CQ891C

Printer gets light use. Message today to change Cyan cartridge. Replaced with a geuine HP Cyan cartridge.

This is confirmed on the screen. But printer then returns a message 'General Printer Error' etc. Turn off & on.

Done this and still same message. Manually cleaned the printhead, looks in reasonable condition, same message. Tried the Utility to clean the print head but can't do it as there's an error message.

What do I do? I see a new HP 711 print head is available for €300. But I don't want to order that and find that the printhead is not the problem. Can it be some other issue? Thanks for any help.

Thanks Rita, I've reviewed that video and document. I can confirm the cartridges are all genuine HP and I've cleaned the contacts, done hard reset, changed to a new cyan cartridge. Issue persists - 'printer failure'. I notice cyan ink on the printhead though rather than other colours so maybe this is leaking? No problem getting a new printhead 711 but I'd like to check if it's possibly any other component that's failing?

Hi,

I just started to get the same error today. I haven't printed anything in probably a month. I did install a new printhead within the last year, as I was having a different issue then, and has worked flawlessly until now. It says to turn the power off and it will give me an error code on startup, which it does not do, it just goes into the error screen. I have removed the printhead, and cleaned that, the contacts, removed each ink cartridge and checked the contacts on those, and everything looks fine. I have tried powering down the unit with the power switch, and just disconnecting the cord while it is on, and still get the same error. I would really like to find a solution instead of purchasing a new large format printer.

Thanks KCOCM, pretty much the same here. Except my error occurred after I replaced one toner, with the same genuine HP cartridge. No word back, kinda assuming it's the printhead which is about €300 but you have me concerned now. Could there be internal software in these that has been updated somehow by HP? That's a concern?
