While trying to troubleshoot a plotter issue, I tried to install the two FW updates available for the T770. The first went in (kind of...I had to go to the plotter and confirm that I was allowing an UNSIGNED firmware UD..HP...WTH????) but the second failed outright saying that the file was invalid. I DL'd it several times from different machines, rebooted the plotter, still nothing.

Any ideas?

I recommend that you validate that the version of your formatter card corresponds to the version of the firmware that you are trying to install. There is a firmware version for version A or version B of the formatter.

How do I find the version of the formatter board? (Without dissecting the unit, that is. )

And the web page for the firmware DLs only has 2 on it, one for the T770 and one for the T1200...says nothing about the formatter board version.

You're not alone.  That firmware update doesn't work for the T770 or for the T1200, which uses the same firmware.  I have both printers and can't get it to go on either machine and have tried several different methods.  You're right, one update goes fine but the second larger file always comes back with "file invalid" error.  I've tried it with a USB key, properly formatted, I've tried a Mac, I tried the EWS method, I tried different file order of downloading, everyway I could think of including three different laptops and a desktop.  I sent the file to an HP factory tech and he sent it to a buddy of his at HP and the last thing I heard was that the buddy was having trouble finding a printer that old to try the file out on.   Unforturnatley HP doesn't have an answer yet.  I would say, if your printer is working ok, just skip the FW update for now until maybe HP has an answer.  If you're having problems it may not be the firmware.

There's more info on this forum about this if you get a chance to do a search.  "T770 Firmware Update" should bring you some results.

I don't work for HP....I just repair their printers.
