Hi,
I am troubleshooting a DesignJet T830. Last year the printer would not print all the colors or align correctly, even after running the clean and align cycles. We tried cleaning the printerhead and ink cartridges. We decided to buy all new ink and a replacement printerhead. After replacing both, the plotter is still having the same issues. I've tried multiple cleaning and aligning cycles but still no luck. So far, we only got black ink to come through and a bit of yellow. I can't seem to pinpoint where the issue is coming from. I tried reaching out to HP support but they won't provide any guidance without making me pay a support fee. What are the next steps?
Thank you.

Hello @techexpert945, Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for providing the detailed history of your HP DesignJet T830 printing issue. We understand that you have already replaced all ink cartridges and the printhead and performed multiple cleaning and alignment cycles, yet the printer is still producing mainly black with only a small amount of yellow while cyan and magenta remain missing.
The HP DesignJet T830 uses four ink channels: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Matte Black. HP states that missing or incorrect colors can be related to the printhead and recommends staged printhead cleaning followed by alignment when necessary. Since both the cartridges and printhead have already been replaced, let's focus on isolating the ink delivery system rather than repeating the same basic maintenance.

HP DesignJet T830 troubleshooting
Print an Image Quality Diagnostic Report
- Print the diagnostic report directly from the printer.
- Check the individual Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black patterns.
- Please take a clear photo of the report before performing additional cleaning.
Check all four Original HP ink cartridges
- Remove and reseat each cartridge.
- Verify that every cartridge is recognized and reports an adequate ink level.
- Check for cartridge or ink-system warnings on the control panel.
Inspect the ink-delivery system
Because a new printhead and new cartridges have reproduced essentially the same problem as the old components, please visually check the accessible ink-delivery path for signs of:
- Air gaps in the ink lines
- Little or no cyan/magenta ink reaching the printhead
- Leakage or contamination around the cartridge/printhead area
Run the HP printhead cleaning sequence correctly
The DesignJet T830 provides three stages of printhead cleaning, with progressively greater ink use. HP recommends reviewing the printed result after each stage and proceeding to the next stage only if print quality remains poor.
From the control panel:
Settings > Printer maintenance > Clean printhead
Since you have already performed multiple cleaning cycles, avoid repeatedly running the procedure if there is no measurable improvement. Excessive cleaning consumes ink without correcting an underlying ink-delivery problem.
Perform printhead alignment only after ink flow improves
HP notes that accurate printhead alignment is necessary for correct colors and sharp output, but alignment cannot compensate for color channels that are not supplying ink correctly.
If the diagnostic page confirms that cyan and magenta remain completely absent while black and some yellow are present, despite correctly installed new cartridges and printhead, the next area requiring evaluation would be the printer's ink supply/delivery system rather than the computer, driver, or document being printed.
Have a great day!
