Designet Z5200PS
Linux

Please see the error: https://youtu.be/S0DGsSx64Lc

This printer got a new HDD from eBay.

It boots, then when reaching 100% it says
"64:04.1 install the latest firmware release" "press ok to continue"

Regardless of me pressing OK, or not, it continues to work for a while, moving the carriage and such, and then fails with:
"79:04 Restart the printer. If the problem persists, **bleep**"

Please advise on how to upgrade the firmware before it fails with 79.04 - which seems to disable it's ethernet connectivity.

The new hard drive you installed.  Was it preloaded for your model printer?  Do you have a link to the ebay auction and description of the hard drive on the auction?  You may have gotten a bad drive.  And by "bad" I mean one without the latest firmware installed or a USB thumb drive included that has the latest firmware on it to load with.  A regular off-the-shelf hard drive won't work without the HP software already loaded, which is proprietory but easily found from ebay sellers.

You can download a service manual here:  https://www.tonerinkprint.com/hp-designjet-z5200-service-manual.pdf

It has instructions for doing and emergency firmware update and also ways to find out what firmware you currently have loaded, if any.  According to HP's website it should be firmware TR8-AC_17.0.0.1.

Here's a link to the page with the firmware with the Linux system:  https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-designjet-z5200-photo-printer/4122732

Let us know what happens.

I don't work for HP....I just repair their printers.

Thank you.

I just went on Easter vacation, but I'll most certainly come back once I've tested what you suggest.

The HDD I ordered is here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/302113767334
On first boot, it certainly did other things first,  the text was different, and it did "prepare/reconfigure" before rebooting and failing.

As you advised, I downloaded both firmware files, one is >500MB the other is 335kB  -  none is executable(or has windows/Linux executable contents).  - so I do not know how to upload it.

In case the printer have a service webpage (http), I failed to find information in the service manual about *how* to reach it and do a firmware upgrade, or the default IP address of the printer. (or whatever it expects DHCP)

(I do not know whatever the IP configuration is stored in some EEPROM or HDD)

There is no female USB-A on (host port) the printer's formatter, only ethernet + USB-B

I am attaching the fault details as described in the service manual:
