HP DesignJet 800ps
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I am getting a 79:04 error right at the "End of initialization sequence". I have been unable to solve this issue with about 3 months of trial and error.

Trouble shooting steps I have taken:

  • Power Cycle
  • Remove all ink cartridges, print heads and media
  • Reset EEROM. I hear the beep during the initialization sequence but upon reaching the End of initialization sequence I get a 79:04 error
  • Update the firmware. I was able to successfully update to firmware version A.04.02, however upon reaching End of Initialization sequence I get a 79:04 error
  • LEDs on the formatter produce a solid green and blinking yellow, indicating it is working fine. As well, I did attempt to boot the printer without the formatter card installed
  • Attempted to boot without NIC installed
  • Swapped the Formatter and NIC

The 800ps is not connected to the network. I can't figure out how to get a hold of HP support as the prompts leading up to where it actually lets you contact support don't seem to recognize my serial number.

I am unable to enter the Service Menu/Service Mode

I am starting to question that maybe the failure is happening one step before at Initializing the communication between Main PCA and Formatter as it sits on this step for a few seconds and then flashes to the 79:04. I can't confidently tell that the last box is being filled.

You will likely get no support from HP as this unit was end  of life at least 10 years ago. Most tech staff have probably never laid eyes on one.
