HP DesignJet T100 24-in Printer

Help:

We have a DesignJet T100. After I was notified that one ink cartridge was empty, I replaced it and it alerted that there was a new cartridge inserted. Then, popped back saying "one or more cartridges appear to be damaged," indicating the black ink cartridge. I took the existing black ink out and replaced it, only to be met with the same message. Gently cleaned the slot where the black ink is inserted and tried again - same message. Ive taken the print head out and see no issues (with my limited knowledge of what an issue would look like). Tried taking all cartridges out and re-inserting - same message about black ink cartridge. Turned off, updated software, tried running maintenance (wont allow because of cartridge error) etc etc etc. I dont know what else to try...
