Hello
We have here a HP Designjet T1200 (Model CH538A) with firmware TT6-TTAJ_8.2.2.3.
I want to update this printer to the latest firmware TT6-TTAJ_08_04_00.1 from https://support.hp.com/ch-de/drivers/selfservice/hp-designjet-t1200-printer-series/3941998

But I always get an 'update error'. Tried different browsers on my Win 10 client here, and even started the firmware-update from an memory-stick connected to the printer as per the manual, but the update always fails.

Any thoughts on how to update this printer? Evtl. in intermediate steps with previous firmwares, but where to find them?

Thanks.

If you do a search for T1200 Firmware Update you'll find quite a few posts about the topic.  It's a known problem.

I don't work for HP....I just repair their printers.

Thanks for the info, I just found out myself that this seems to be a known problem.

Luckily I just found a working solution to update the firmware of my T1200.

If you have some time, could you please share your solution?  I need to update my T1200 firmware and haven't had any success.

Thanks!

Hi there

My working solution that I figured out is as follows:
Download the standard firmware from https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-designjet-t1200-printer-series/3941998

This downloads the file: TT6-TTAJ_08_04_00.1_mvl40-x86-opt_B.signed.zip

Open the above file in 7zip. Other archivers should work as well, but I used 7zip.

This results in the unpacked file TT6-TTAJ_08_04_00.1_mvl40-x86-opt_B.signed.fmw, which does not work, as we found out.....

Now open this file TT6-TTAJ_08_04_00.1_mvl40-x86-opt_B.signed.fmw again in 7zip and unpack/double-click on it,

This then unpacks in the following three files:

CONTENTS
TT6-TTAJ_08_04_00.1_mvl40-x86-opt_B.unsigned.fmw.sig
TT6-TTAJ_08_04_00.1_mvl40-x86-opt_B.unsigned.fmw

Now use the file TT6-TTAJ_08_04_00.1_mvl40-x86-opt_B.unsigned.fmw for the firmware update.

A self-explanatory message appears on the browser and a prompt appears on the T1200 asking if unsigned firmware should be installed.

Select 'yes' and the update will continue and finish without further problems.

Hope this works for you too.

HP support was not very helpful in this matter. Their only suggestion was to rename the fmw-file to "Firmware.fmw", which did not help.

Good luck and happy printing....;-)

Of course, I cannot accept any liability for the installation and use of unsigned or non-standard software.
You do this on your own responsibility.

I understand.

Thanks for the clear instruction.  I'll give that a try as soon as I get a chance.
