Hello again

Now I was lucky to get into the service menu. I made a reset of the EEROM. The printer booted up and I mounted the normal printheads. I can now also access the printer it from the web interface. All the stored files are gone - but that's no problem. I think the rest of the way is to change the printheads. They worked before the long pause  - but even cleaning them manually is not helping. The print was barely visible in the beginning. I then put a brand new yellow and magenta head in the printer and the result is much better. See the two photos.HP_4500_Status_19062022-2132.jpg

I will mount black and cyan to see if it will help so the print will be perfect..

It now seems that the printer works - and I am a happier now. It's a good piece of equipment to work with. It was the timing with pressing the button combination that did the trick to enter the service menu - I did release the buttons after the first beep.

Thank you so much for your time. I will let you know what happens after changing the printheads.

Good to hear you got it working!  They're a very sturdy and hard working printer and good for years of use yet.  I found the front loading double roll feature very appealing.  Let  me know if the paper from the lower roll slips when loading and causes an error.  I have a great trick for fixing the issue that's cheap and easy.

Found four more printheads for that model yesterday so I have pretty much a full set, if you need any.

I don't work for HP....I just repair their printers.

Both the loading rolls are working perfect. The printer is in a mechanical good condition and has mostly been printing for an architect, so the total usage is not much. Thanks for the info about the printheads. I normally buy on Ebay in Europe so I will take a look there in the first round. I hope it will get its good old printing quality back 🙂
