HP DesignJet Z9+dr 44-in PostScript Printer with V-Trimmer

Printer is saying I need the Maintenance Kit 2 soon. I have a service manual and will attempt it myself. Do I need to enter the service menu and reset anything to replace these parts or is it just tools? Also once this message is shown, roughly how long do I have before the printer stops working? Is there a way to see the actual supply station waste ink level? Thanks in advance.

You will need to perform several calibrations after installing the kit, specifically the line sensor needs to be calibrated first in my experience or paper will not be recognized at all. If you print the entire service reports it will show the % remaining on the kit. Eventually it will stop as it will assume (rightly or wrongly) that the waste ink system is full and is programmed to avoid damage to either the printer or your office. (waste ink spills are very messy). How long you have really depends on how much printing you do. I have a heavy use customer, 100+ pages per day and they have been running on the warning for the last 3 weeks as they try to find a downtime for me to attend onsite and perform maintenance.

Thanks for that info. Very helpful So once I have installed the parts how do I find out the code for the service menu to calibrate things?  Many thanks

That code is in the service manual. I cannot share that code as some information I am privy to is bound by an NDA signed by the company I work for. Regardless of how many sources online post that information.

Hi there- I am in the same position as you regarding the maintenance kit for the z9 except I can't seem to find a source for the manual- can you point me in the right direction for a downloadable manual?

Thanks

If you perform a simple google search there are many sources. No, I cannot post a link as that action would violate the NDA I have signed as an HP service partner. Others may chose to ignore their NDAs, I do not.

Hi RepairTrooper, I have a question regarding the service station. The old service station I removed had a PCA board next to the fan with a connector that I unplugged to remove. However the new Service Station doesn't have this PCA board at all, so I am left with a wire with nothing to connect to...? The part numbers of the Service station match, I know sometimes parts are revised and changed but this seems wrong.. Can you shed some light on what that board does and why it is no longer there, also what to do with the wire that is no longer connected..? Many thanks.

you have to transfer that id board from the old station to the new one.

Oh wow really. the screws aren't accessible to get it off and The design of the updated service station has nowhere to screw it into... unless I just glue it on somewhere. What does this board actually do? I haven't transferred it and the printer is working perfectly. Thanks for your time.

HP Recommended

You transfer the entire board and the plastic mount. Disengage the ink catcher from the bottom which gives you enough room to detach the board from the service station. There are tabs you will see.
