HP Printer 7740

When I load 11x17 paper into the printer tray of the 7740 Printer, the tray can not shut.  Is the printer designed to have the tray open when printing on Tabloid size paper?  It seems like a major design flaw, and looks unprofessional to have the paper tray hanging open by 3".  Is this how it's designed to be?

So thank you Betty for replying.  Though I'm still unclear. Is the HP 7740 printer truly designed to have the tray open (sticking out) when it's loaded with 11x17 paper? It just looks so wrong.  But I can't imagine having to remove all of the tabloid (11x17) paper from the tray when it's not printing - and then have to load it specially every time we need a larger size print.  Is this what we have to do - so that the paper trays can all be shut and look like a printer should look?  Anyone have this printer - and have this issue?

Which paper tray is it loaded to?

I have tried loading into either paper tray (1 or 2), though I would prefer it to be in Tray 2.  Is it really supposed to stick out and not close with the paper loaded into it?

Could you send us a picture of it?

See how the bottom tray stays out/doesn't close?See how the bottom tray stays out/doesn't close?

Sorry - the picture is rotated 90 degrees to the left.  There is water piping and electrical piping photobombing it in the background, and it's sitting on a wobbly ugly two-drawer metal file cabinet.

But do you see what I mean about Tray 2 (the bottom one)?  It won't close with the paper inside, and I just can't believe that HP would design something that obviously looks like a mistake.  ??

It is not designed that way. Try pulling out the tray and pushing it in.

Hi Betty-

The tray cannot go in as there is 11x17 paper in it.  The tray can't be pushed in any further.  I just can't believe that HP would put something on the market that so drastically and blatantly looks wrong.  I need to hear it from HP that they really truly did design something - and let it go to market - with such an absolute flub.  Is this true?
