We were given this old printer at our history center, and i'm wondering, is it practical to keep it.. is there any way to actually connected and make it work.  It's a model  C4709b and in support, I only see a 4709a listed.  When i've enter my serial number and support it tells me I need to enter a correct number and I know i'm entering the correct number, but it apparently cannot find that number.  It would be nice to have a printer this size. But i'm not sure if it's too old to work on anything we might have, and if I should just trash it or what I could do.

These printers are long since past their end of support life. You will find people still using them and there are likely some dedicated sites on the internet, this is not one of them. Ink and other supplies will all be non-HP at this point and you might need to spend some time fiddling to get it to work. if you have the time to invest it might be worth it, but in the end, unless you are ready to tinker, it probably is not.
