Hello,
We've been struggling with an issue on our HP DesignJet T520 for the past few days. When sending a file to print, the job sometimes takes up to 15 minutes to start printing, sometimes it only begins after a restart, and occasionally it doesn’t print at all. Additionally, the print queue often gets clogged, requiring manual intervention.
Here’s what we’ve done so far:
- Updated the printer drivers on all client devices to the latest versions, and even tested different driver versions.
- Updated the printer's firmware to the latest version available. However, this was a challenge—the firmware update took multiple attempts using the DesignJet utility before it finally succeeded.
- The issue is occurring on devices running both Windows 10 and Windows 11.
- We don’t believe this is a network issue, as the computers are printing directly to the printer without using a print server.
We urgently need help as we rely on this printer to produce maps, and this issue is severely impacting our workflow.
Any assistance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance.

Hi @JAN0,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I’m sorry to hear about the issues you’re facing with your HP DesignJet T520. Here are some troubleshooting steps and suggestions that might help resolve the delays and print queue problems.
Check Printer Settings and Spooler
- Printer Spooler: Make sure the print spooler service is running on the client machines. You can restart it by going to Services (search for it in the Start menu), locating Print Spooler, and restarting it.
- Spooler Settings: In the printer properties, go to the Advanced tab and try changing the spooler settings. You might want to select "Start printing after last page is spooled" or "Print directly to printer" to see if it affects the delays.
Network Considerations
- IP Address Conflict: Ensure that the printer has a static IP address to avoid any IP conflicts that might cause delays.
- Network Latency: Although you mentioned it’s not a network issue, double-check that the network connections are stable and that no other network devices are causing interference.
Printer Configuration
- Print Jobs: Check if there are any large or complex print jobs that might be causing the clog. Try printing smaller, simpler files to see if the issue persists.
- Print Queue Management: Clear any stuck print jobs from the queue and try printing again. Sometimes old jobs can cause issues.
Reinstall Printer
- Remove and Reinstall: Try removing the printer from your devices and reinstalling it. This might help if the issue is related to corrupted printer configurations.
Firmware and Driver Compatibility
- Driver Reinstallation: Since you’ve updated the drivers, consider uninstalling the current drivers and reinstalling them from scratch.
- Firmware Update: Make sure the firmware update was successful and verify that there are no additional patches or updates available.
Check for Conflicting Software
- Antivirus/Firewall: Sometimes, antivirus or firewall software can interfere with print jobs. Temporarily disable them to see if the issue persists.
- Third-Party Software: Ensure no other software is causing conflicts with the printer’s operation.
I hope one of these solutions helps get your printer back to normal operation.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
