HP DesignJet T730 Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

We have a HP T730 design jet, and it has started coming up with an error saying it cannot detect paper despite having a full roll correctly loaded.

has anyone seen this issue before and now what is stopping it from detecting the paper?

Most common cause on this series is a leaking printhead which results in the line sensor mounted to the carriage being covered with ink. Open the right hand door and look inside with a good flashlight. To the right of the carriage there is a little brush that should be brownish/copper in color. This brush cleans the line sensor. If it looks black it has been polluted with ink. You will also likely see ink all over the service station. If the printhead is leaking you will need to replace the printhead and you may need to replace the service station as the brush itself is not replaceable and cleaning it may or may not work. Best method to try and clean is a damp cotton swab and brush upwards so that you do not squish down the bristles. It may take a lot of cleaning to get the ink out of the brush. You will also need to clean the sensor on the carriage so that it will again detect the paper.t730.jpg
