My DESIGNJET Z5200 3 initialises then stops with the menu error reading "restart the printer, if the problem persists, **bleep**.
This message remains and nothing else is accessible by pressing any of the buttons, menu.. etc..
I have tried a hard restart but the same message still comes up.
Any ideas? ... Thank you

Hi @David_Z5200
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query.
I understand your HP DesignJet Z5200 is displaying a"Restart the printer" error during startup and becomes unresponsive. Since the error remains after a hard restart, the issue may be related to the printer's firmware, formatter board, hard drive, or another hardware component rather than a temporary startup problem.
- What is the complete error message, including any code (for example, 08:11)?
- Does the printer emit any beeps during startup? If yes, how many?
- At what point does the initialization stop?
- Have there been any recent power interruptions or hardware changes?
- Are any lights blinking on the printer or formatter board?
- Can the printer be detected from a connected computer or network?
Troubleshooting Steps
- Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Disconnect any USB or network cables.
- Reconnect power and start the printer.
- Check whether the error message changes or if an error code appears.
I would request you to please share me the picture of the error displayed.
The exact error code is critical for diagnosis. If you can provide the full message or code shown after "Restart the printer," I can help identify the likely cause and the next steps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
I'm an HP Employee.
