I am really not sure what will happen if you do not have the ink purge heads installed since I have never done it without them. My assumption is it will still send some ink into the tubes. You will not have any indication if the purge worked since the heads have a white piece in them that turns the color of each tube when purging is completed to tell you if the purge worked or not. Another method I use is with a special syringe I have that I am able to draw ink into the syringe which is the same as purging the tube. My main question is why you are purging the tubes. Is there a problem with one or more of your colors? If you need to get heads, below is a link to a source.
