Printer gave an 8:11 error and HP support suggested the hard drive was to blame. Replaced the hard drive but now it is only initializing to 20% and giving a 79:04 error. I can't access anything on the control panel. Tried to run firmware upgrade from USB but that did not work. Any help is appreciated!

Did you install a correct hard drive for this device that you ordered from HP or just a hard drive you had laying around? These devices require a specific drive that is pre-formatted and has the operating system pre-installed at the factory. There is no way to use just a blank drive. If you are using the correct drive you may want to remove all supplies and power up the unit and then install supplies when prompted.

Hi

I have recently replaced the carriage belt on my HP Z3200PS. On reassembly I was getting 79.04 errors just by attempting to load paper. I noticed that the head unit seemed to be more or less in the same place when they occurred. Started to suspect the encoder strip. I had already inspected and cleaned it when the printer was in pieces. Anyhow, I got a small piece of lint free cloth and soaked it with distilled water. I squeezed out all the excess water and then in a u shape ran the cloth along the entire length of the encoder. Result: 79.04 error disappeared!
