Had to replace a printhead in a T120. Also replaced ink.

During setup, printer detected a leak in the black cartridge.

Checked, no leak.

After pulling and re-inserting several times, no change.

Printer got power cycled.

Now printer is saying the ink cartridges, which are brand new, are not new enough to do printhead setup.

Performed OOBE and Hard reset, no change.

Both printerhead and ink come straight from HP.

Is there a way to get around this.

Hello GregGregerson,

Thank you for posting your concern,

In situations where your HP Designjet T120 is having difficulty recognizing new ink cartridges and continues to report issues, here are a few steps you can try to resolve the problem:

  1. Verify Cartridge Installation:

    • Ensure that each cartridge is seated properly in its designated slot. Double-check that the cartridges click into place and are correctly aligned.
  2. Inspect Cartridge and Printhead Area:

    • Remove the cartridges and inspect the cartridge slots for any obstructions or dried ink that might be causing detection issues.
    • Use a soft, lint-free cloth to clean the electrical contacts in the printer and on the cartridges. Ensure both the cartridge and carriage contacts are clean and free of debris.
  3. Perform a Hard Reset:

    • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
    • Wait about 60 seconds before plugging the printer back in and turning it on. This can sometimes help reset the printer’s internal memory and resolve detection issues.
    • Try full reset from support menu :
    • Enter into the support menu by pressing the power button during 15 seconds.
      3. Access 3.5 ‘Reset PHA Startup Condition’.

      4. Type ‘PIN’ number 2873, and select OK.

    • Please check the front panel message after pressing OK. Either ‘success’ or ‘fail’ will appear, and the printer will automatically reboot.
  4. Firmware Update:

    • Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer model. Outdated firmware can sometimes cause hardware recognition issues. Visit the HP Support website to download and install any available updates.
  5. Recheck Cartridge Packaging:

    • Make sure you have removed all packaging materials, such as plastic films or protective strips, from the cartridges.
  6. Contact HP Support:

    • If the issue persists despite following the steps above, consider reaching out to HP Customer Support. Since your cartridges and printhead are directly from HP, they may provide additional support or replacement options if the products are still under warranty.

Ensuring all these steps are followed could help solve the problem. If the issue continues, HP Support will be the best resource for a more tailored solution.
