T2600dr
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

with the PDF printer driver all prints are not printed immediately they are in the spooler of the printer and you have to start

them from there manually. With the other driver (without PDF) they are printed just fine directly on the small or bigger roll.

What I do wrong. Can someone help me?

Thank you.

Hello,

Before I give you the resolution, I need a bit more detail — because on the DesignJet T2600dr, this exact symptom (jobs stuck in queue when using the “PDF driver” but NOT the Standard driver) can come from several different causes:

  • HP DesignJet PDF Driver running in “Hold for Preview/Spooling” mode

  • Driver set to “Print to File / Job Storage”

  • Accounting / PIN printing enabled in the PDF driver

  • Wrong queue selected (T2600 has multiple logical queues)

  • Permissions issue on the workstation

  • Driver mismatch between PostScript/PDF and non-PS queue

To avoid giving you the wrong fix, I need to confirm two things:

I need these details from you:

1. Which exact driver are you using when the job holds in the queue?

Examples:

  • HP DesignJet T2600 PostScript/PDF Driver

  • HP DesignJet T2600 PCL3 driver

  • HP Universal PDF driver (UPD-PDF)

  • Windows Built-in “Microsoft PDF” queue (rare but happens)

If you're unsure:
Open Printers & Scanners → Printer → Printer Properties → About and tell me what it shows.

2. When the job is stuck in the queue, what is the status shown?

Examples:

  • “Printing – Retained”

  • “Paused”

  • “Hold for authentication”

  • “Error – Printing”

  • “Spooling”

  • Or does it simply sit there with no message?

This tells me whether the driver is in Job Storage mode, or if Windows is blocking the job.

3. Are you printing through USB, Ethernet, or via a print server?

T2600 PDF driver behaves differently when:

  • Direct IP printing

  • Shared queue

  • Print server with job retention turned on

⚠️ Most common cause (based on your description)

The PDF PostScript driver for the T2600 is very often configured with “Job Storage Mode: Proof and Hold” enabled by default.

When this is ON:

  • The printer does NOT print automatically.

  • It waits for you to manually release the job at the front panel or queue.

This is why your other driver prints immediately — because only the PDF/PS driver supports job storage.
