Two possible sensors that might be causing a problem. First is the OOPS sensor which detects the top of page when you insert a roll. The other sensor is the carriage sensor, mounted usually on the left side of the print head carriage. If you have had an ink leak, the wiper that cleans the sensor can become polluted with ink and that gets transferred to the sensor and blocks it so it cannot detect when paper is loaded. If you find the service manual (Google it, they are out there), you can run the diagnostics that should be able to narrow this down for you. If you examine around the printhead station and see a lot of waste ink on top then that is likely where the problem is, caused by a leaking printhead.
