Hi, I had an "ink" error. I enabled "replace printheads" to check for ink leaks on the printhead contacts.
Now the printer is asking me to replace the printheads. Is this inevitable, or is there a way to prevent this?

@toNIK762, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP  DesignJet T790 printer.

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution. We hope our assistance has been helpful!

Experiencing an ink error with the HP DesignJet T790 can often lead to the printer requesting a printhead replacement. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve printhead issues that might help you avoid replacement:

  1. Clean the Printhead Contacts:

    • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
    • Open the printer's ink cartridge door to access the printheads.
    • Carefully remove the printheads. Avoid touching the nozzles or the copper contacts.
    • Use a lint-free cloth or a swab slightly moistened with distilled water to gently clean the contacts and nozzles.
    • Allow everything to dry completely before reinserting the printheads.
  2. Check for Firmware Updates:

    • Ensure that your printer is running the latest firmware version. Firmware updates often fix bugs that might cause such errors.
    • Visit the HP support website to download and install any available updates for your printer model.
  3. Reset the Printer:

    • Perform a full reset of the printer by unplugging it while it's turned on. Wait about a minute before plugging it back in and turning it on.
  4. Inspect the Ink Cartridges:

    • Ensure that all ink cartridges are properly installed and are not empty or near-empty, as this can sometimes cause ink errors.
  5. Printhead Alignment:

    • From the printer's control panel, navigate to the maintenance menu and perform a printhead alignment. This process might clear the ink error and recalibrate the printer.

If these steps do not resolve the issue and the printer continues to request replacement, it might be necessary to replace the printheads. Persistent errors can sometimes indicate that the printheads have reached the end of their useful life, especially if they have printed many pages or been exposed to harsh conditions.

I hope this helps!

Take care and have an amazing day!
