T920 plotter and Ethernet switch

I just purchased a new workstation computer which has one Ethernet port.  The T920 must be connected directly to the computer with an Ethernet cable.  However, my workstation must *** also be connected to the router with an Ethernet cable. 

I am not tech savy, so excuse my fundamental question...can i run an Ethernet cable from my router (3rd floor ) to an Ethernet swtich (basement floor) and then run both my computer and the T920 to the Ethernet switch?  The office is on the bottom floor.

If so I plan to purchase a high end switch.

*** I relaize that I can use a High end USB adapter for my computer...this eliminates the need for an Ethernet switch.  But I prefer the direct and secure connect via an Ethernet cable.

...can ePrinting software help here?  Can I name my desk top as a mobile device?

Just purchase a 4 port switch and two rj45 cables. The cable that is currently going into the computer you plug into the switch and then you connect one cable from the switch to the computer and another cable from the same switch to the plotter and both items can now communicate with the network.

I decided to give this a go on my own...I moved the router to the basement...ran the Ethernet cable from the plotter to the Optimum Router (4 available ports) and ran another Ethernet cable from the computer to the Optimum Router and everything works.  

Thank you for the follow up...if I was unlucky your help would have pointed the way.
