DesignJet 800ps (42in.)

I am struggling to get the Firmware Upgrade tool to work on my 800ps. I am trying to get to A.05.01 due to the nasty printhead issue which causes new printheads to show up as bad due to dates.

I've downloaded the tool and everything seems to work correctly.  It finds the plotter, uploads the file, and then says please reboot your plotter which I do.  Unfortunately, comes back as A.04.02 every time.

I took a look at the Bill of Materials for the upgrade tool and noticed the following file list (portion):

DJ500_A.05.01.fmw

DJ800PS_A.04.02.fmw

Since my tool is working correctly, i wonder if it just keeps installing A.04.02 and that's why I don't notice a change.

Should there be a file DJ800PS_A.05.01.fmw? Does one exist? Anyone else have this issue?

Thanks in advance!

Jim

During the firmware update on the printer screen, you should be seeing a small printer icon and a lot of 0 and 1 animations. At the end of the update on the screen, there should be a printer icon and animation of the power cable to be unpluged,  if you don't have that on the screen then your upgrade tool isn't working.

Try to run the firmware update tool from a computer that has WIN 7.

Valsimot - Thanks for your idea. I got it to work by using a different laptop.

On my first laptop, the DesignJet driver installed successfully and everything looked like it was working fine. The blue progress bar, etc.  However, it clearly wasn't.

As you said, when I switched laptops (still using Win 10 by the way), it was magic. I started from scratch, installed the DesignJet driver, shared the plotter and then launched the Firmware Upgrade tool.

This time, the Firmware Tool still displayed the blue progress bar; however, the big difference I could see was on the LCD display of the plotter. It was giving me - for the first time - an indication that a file was being uploaded to the plotter. (Unfortunately, it happened so fast it didn't make exact notes). Once that file successfully uploaded to the plotter, upon reboot, the plotter went through a successful Firmware update.

Thank you kindly for the assist!
