i have looked everywhere for help but seem to be going round in circles. We are getting this error upon starting the printer and can't get past it. Is anyone able to help?!

One thing to try is to remove all printheads and ink cartridges, power cycle the machine and wait for it to prompt to install supplies and then replace as prompted.

Sorry I don't mean to sound like an idiot but what is a power cycle?

HP Recommended

Power cycle means to turn off the device and then turn it back on. In this case I would recommend after turning off, unplug the cord, wait 30 seconds and then turn the device back on.

Thanks for confirming that! Definitely tried that a few times now and no luck unfortunately.

In the following procedure perform each step as it appears in the list and only move on to the next step once you are sure the 79:04 error has not been cleared:
If non-HP ink is being used, it is recommended to replace it with HP ink and printheads:
  1. Check the printer's supply status:
Extract the Service Plot (when possible) or view the information on front panel. If any cartridges or printheads are out of warranty or the printheads show more than 100% of use, replace these before going to the next step.
  2. Check the printer firmware version and if necessary, update it.
If System Error 79:03 and 79:04 persist, please contact the HP support. For contact information, go to Contact HP.
