Hi All.
I have a client with a Z6200. They are printing on HP ID gloss.
All was working fine when the time came to replace the roll.
Once the roll was replaced, all of a sudden the Matte Black was rubbing off (not curing)
I tried all possibilities I can currently think of:
Try another gloss media (same)
Try Coated paper 24lB (cures just fine)***
Try gloss with a different profile (same)
Reset factory Default (same)
Update FW (same)
based on EWS info had them run an alignment and colour calibration (same)
Replaced both MK-R printheads (same)
I sent them instructions to change the drying times (not expecting results to really vary)
NOTE: I am told that the original file that did not cure has still not completely cured (4+ days - Thursday to Monday)
I am stumped.
Happy to answer any questions that might lead me down the correct path.
Regards,
RoyK

Hi All,
I finally broke down and went on site to see this issue for myself (2.5 hour drive).
When I saw the samples I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
Good image was crisp and shiny (and no rubbing off) on ID Gloss media.
Bad sample image was on same paper printed only minutes after and was dull, not shiny and crisp, and you could rub of the black anywhere on the image (even after 6 days)
MK-Y printheads were already replaced and we still had the same issue (NOTE: We were only checking for Matte Black issues for days as all the samples I was seeing were Diagnostic prints and only the Matte Black was rubbing off.)
I had spoken to a paper expert to try and get an idea about the coating and inks and was prepared to syringe all the MK ink from the tubes and repurge with a new ink cartridge.
I decided to run a carriage diagnostic (dont know why but it seemed to me like a good place to start)
when prompted, I removed all the PH's and then wehn prompted I reinstalled. It was at this point that the PK-LG PH's were saying either Faulty or Reseat. Once I had cleaned to flex cables and back of the PH's and reseated a couple of times they were finally accepted and the Ink System Process started.
During the process a message came on the front panel saying that PH #5 and PH#6 were nearing end of life and quality may not be as expected (something like that anyway).
When the process was completed and the PH alignment was done, I could still brush off the Matte Black.
I ran an internal Demo Print (BW Photo) as a test and it looked great.
I ran the same test on there paper and it was also OK.
I ran the clients file (same one that was the original issue) and it worked just fine.
In Conclusion (sorry for the long description) I learned the following:
That Matte Black, on its own during diagnostic prints, will rub off. (due to the coating on the paper)
I believe the printer adds either PK or LG to Matte Black during the printing process so that it will dry properly (If anybody knows this for sure please share)
The client has ordered 2 new PK-LG printheads and I thnk this issue will be no longer.
Cheers,
RK
