My z9+ is giving me an error:

0021-0001-0080

Cleaning process needed. See Clean the Printhead Drop Detector, in the user's guide. If the problem persists, call your support representative.

it says the drop detector needs cleaned, fiber blocking.

I looked and found a very, very small fiber near the top, but hard to believe that would be causing the problem.

Anyway, I wiped it out, restarted, and I’m back into the same stuck loop. if I hit OK, it cycles back through to the same error message. It will NOT let me move on to using the printer.

Hello LightPainter,

Thank you for posting your concern,

Cleaning the Printhead Drop Detector on HP DesignJet Z9+

The error you are experiencing, 0021-0001-0080, indicates that the printhead drop detector needs cleaning due to blockage by fibers or debris. Even a very small fiber can cause issues, so it's important to clean the sensor thoroughly. Here’s how you can clean the printhead drop detector:

Steps to Clean the Printhead Drop Detector:

  1. Turn Off the Printer:

    • Use the printer's front panel to turn it off.
  2. Unplug the Printer:

    • To avoid an electric shock, make sure the printer is unplugged from the power source.
  3. Open the Printer Cover:

    • Locate and open the front cover of the printer to access the printhead area.
  4. Locate the Printhead Drop Detector:

  1. Remove Debris:

    • Carefully remove any visible debris blocking the detector. Even tiny fibers can affect performance.
  2. Clean the Surface:

    • Use a dry, lint-free cloth to wipe the surface of the drop detector. Ensure that non-visible debris is also cleared.

  1. Close the Printer Cover:

    • Once cleaned, close the cover securely.
  2. Plug In and Turn On the Printer:

    • Plug the printer back into the power outlet and turn it on using the front panel.
  3. Test the Printer:

    • Once the printer is on, check if the error persists.

Additional Notes:

  • Use Gloves: It's advisable to wear gloves to prevent getting ink on your hands.
  • Consult Support: If cleaning does not resolve the issue, consider contacting HP Support for further assistance.

Performing this cleaning procedure should typically resolve the issue. However, if the error continues, it might require professional servicing or checking for other structural faults.
