HP DesignJet Z6dr 44-in PostScript Printer with V-Trimmer

We have an error in the printing application for the HP DesignJet Z6 with trimmer.

The installed version, 4.10.38, does not work. The older version, 4.8.118, works without any problems.

The print job is not being sent to the plotter. The error displayed is: “Failed.”

We will also send a video showing the issue to Edited.

Hello @Raluca6, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

If HP Click 4.10.38 is installed on your HP DesignJet Z6 and print jobs fail with a “Failed” error, while HP Click 4.8.118 works normally, the issue is likely related to the newer HP Click version rather than the plotter itself.

If the same printer works correctly with HP Click 4.8.118, this comparison is an important indicator that the issue is associated with the newer HP Click installation or its printing environment.

Recommended workaround

For an immediate workaround, continue using HP Click 4.8.118, which you have confirmed works correctly.

If you need to use HP, click 4.10.38, try the following alternatives:

Try a different file format.

If you are printing a PDF, convert the layout to an image format such as JPEG or TIFF and load the image into HP Click. This can help determine whether the failure is related to PDF processing in the application.

Print without HP Click.

Try printing through the HP DesignJet Z6 printer driver using the standard Windows or macOS print dialog. This bypasses HP Click and helps determine whether the problem is limited to the application.

Clear the Windows print spooler.

If you are using Windows, a stuck or corrupted print job can prevent subsequent jobs from being submitted correctly. Stop the Print Spooler service, clear the files in:

C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS

Then restart the Print Spooler service and restart the computer and plotter. This removes pending spool files that could interfere with printing.

If HP Click 4.8.118 successfully sends the same print jobs to the HP DesignJet Z6, using that version should restore printing while the 4.10.38 issue is investigated. Testing an image file and printing through the standard printer driver can also help identify whether the failure is specific to HP Click or to a particular file type.

Have a great day!

I'm an HP Employee.
